Was this uniform based upon a specific painting of an Officer from the 1st Footguards or was it just a generic officer uniform? I can't seem to find much official information about 1760-1790 uniforms.

If you really really want this type of uniform, Not me and I'll give you the details of the man who made it, but it will cost you about 500 to complete - it's worth it though ;)

Ish, Napoleon was 5'4, I'm 5'10. The uniform is British though, Bonaparte wore better clothes!

yes yes he did. i had to double check on that one, but hey.

both the british and the french wore pretty snazzy uniforms, so it's tough competition, but hey, what can ya do right?

Hahahaha yesss, maybe I am, but what fun is life without a little bit of crazyness? :D I want a justaucorps from the site. . . and alos your hat! For some reason I thought I wouldn't be able to find sweet hats like that (stupid, I know, all I would have needed one some effort and a little creative googling, if that), and now I know they're out there and purchasable. . . matter of time! :D

About £4-500 for the whole thing i think.

Coat was the most expensive part. That and the breeches and waistcoat are all tailor made.

Grenadier Guards of all to choose from... 2nd Foot Guards or 3rd trump 1st lol. The detail is exquisite however.

I just preferred the Button holes on the 1st footguards - more ornate and not as odd looking as the 3rd footguards.

Despite my loyalty to the 2nd, i went with the snazzier uniform - might hunt down a bearskin at some point!

I'm glad you like it - You ought to get one if you can afford it - long waiting list though :S

I probably will in time, buuuuuuut gotta finish my RM Corps of Drums sergeant's uniform. Almost done too. Just need the chin strap for the wolsey pith. And the drummer's cords for RM as well. Got myself an RSDG No1 Piper doublet as well.

(But joining a 42nd re-enactment group, I will also need to get a Black Watch uniform from 1815 made up for me. Hoping I can be an Ensign, but chances are I'd need to be a line soldier first before being an officer. *sigh*. S'why I need the Bess.

Is there anything i can track down for you (other than the Bess)? I'll keep an eye out for chinstraps.

You've seen my Commando Uniform - sometimes it's best to start at the bottom - more honest way of reenacting perhaps?

We shall expect pictures of these uniforms, particularly the Scots DG.

Also - i saw the Canadian Blackwatch in Belgium the week before last - mentioned your chaps to them - nice bunch, but they only had the one Piper with them - he was good though.

Canadian blokes are good chaps. Met two of their pipes and drums in Scotland (48th Highlanders and Toronto Scottish). ALL Canadian Scottish Regiments however are territorial army, including the Black Watch of Canada.

The RSDG uniform is incomplete though. Only have the doublet. Need a Royal Stewart kilt in army design (might be able to get away with a Scots Guards or black watch piper's kilt) and the RSDG sporran.

My RM corps of drums is much closer to being completed.

I had a relation in the 48th Highlanders, Killed at Mt Sorrel Belgium 1916. We visited his grave again 2 weeks ago.

I'll have a look for your kilt, there was a reasonable Blackwatch kilt for £60 recently - proper thickness and pleats.
