some shots of me in ww1 us army ordnance corps uniform

you'll notice, no doubt, that theres no hose on the gas mask, thats because mine was cut off!!!

the first picture is to show how bloody hot it is when you have to wear one of those damn things! even for 5 minutes!

...well that and full winter uniform when inside your warm cosy home...

*Phew* Glad I didn't have to be around for that war... all that gas and mud... :P
I'll take the heat and sands of the Pacific, thank you very much. :)

the only reason the germans never used gas in ww2 is because they knew britain could out produce them at it! the plan to counter a german invasion of britain was to release gas onto the beaches, though this would have made the british machine gunners life hard as well!

the pacific though? are you mad? nothing but malaria, plants and ambush!

Where do you get all this stuff?!
:iconcdrejohnpauljones:
Oh no... I'm talking about the occasional spit of land that two fleets will fight like hell for weeks on end to control... the cool breeze, open ocean, the spray... the hot blowing air of engines, props... the metal flight deck collecting heat makes you feel like you're walking on a stovetop. Almost daily you hop into the confines of a cockpit, your own world, where anything can happen, where you control every move. The feeling of being forced back in your seat when slung off the deck, the lift of the plane as it climbs, rolls, turns...

A fighter pilot in the Pacific.

ah well the fighter boys were the glory hogs; im talking about the man on the ground (arent i always the infantryman?) i know this guy who fought in burma india and all the way through the far east...

... the only place where war is hell seemed to be true...

mozzies everywhere, dysentry, lack of supplies, and the fact that no-one at home cares about this campaign. snipers in the trees, bayonets, sweat, disease... not my idea of fun...

and beside i thought us carriers had wooden decks???
